Its a LONG ASS STORY-Basically Me (David) and Chris (Original line-up drummer) , started jamming out in a garage during our senior year in High School... It wasn't till a year later that Chase (original line-up Bassist) began jamming out with us on a few original songs I wrote over the year. A few months later, Patrick answered a Craigslist add and joined the band as a lead guitarist. This became "The Natives" original line-up. SoCal Punk influenced my style of writing and brought to mind, BAD RELIGION, PENNYWISE, OFFSPRING, T.S.O.L, AGENT ORANGE, SOCIAL DISTORTION, and a lot of other awesome Punk bands. Influenced by what the 90's considered "Skate/punk" and what would later become the image and the voice of Southern California. Although some or many of "The Natives" music may sound political, it really isn't. It is more of asking for a change within ourselves, the everyday average Joe. I rarely write about Government Conflicts because it really starts with a person, the people, ourselves as a society. Societies "self destruction", gang war fare, murder, Rape, Violence, Ignorance and more is what our generation has become and the most common excuse is "survival." So with this in mind I have both combined SURF/punk with the image of ourselves (THE PEOPLE ACROSS THE WORLD) as a TRIBE (community) on an island(city/state/country), with problems and frustrations that we deal with in our everyday lives, and how a man turns from a gentlemen to a savage in desperate times, for "survival."
After having lost Patrick due to other interests; Andy, from my vocal classes at PCC, showing interest in the new available position auditioned. After the audition the decision was clear, Andy had become a new member of The Natives. Soon after, Chase moved to Santa Cruz to pursue his studies which left Chris feeling discouraged from the new changes. So, Chris took an offer to play for another band. I would later get in touch with an old Co-worker (Nick) who played drums, and whom I used to jam out with. Nick’s talent made my decision and we decided to recruit Nick in The Natives. In search of Bass players, we posted flyers everywhere and anywhere, which would later fall into Neil's hands.. who would become our new bass player. Andy falling into depression and constantly on anti-depressants would develop habits and mood swings not to be told in great detail. This would end his run with The Natives.
"Stay True, Stay Real, Stay NATIVE!"
The Natives are Dave, Nick, and Neil.
