...or reasons I'd rather not list here, it pains my soul to have the first piece in this mixed medium be the one I have recently completed and unveiled. Lingering Spirits is a ghost story in the form of a traditionally applied gouache painting on stretched canvas that incorporates circuit bent elements. It tells its haunted tale through a seriously twisted pitch drone synthesizer made from modifying a novelty Halloween toy ghost keychain. The piece is finished and I started this profile mostly to document this and other projects unfolding, because I haven't been able to find anything like this yet. I do believe it to be unique, even among the various oddities and delights I've seen the circuit bending community offering up. I would like to share my thoughts on work challenging the established canons of high art and music theory(there is an excellent essay by Squarepusher available online that I will link to soon) with anyone who is doing any sort of fine art with these wonderful little devices. Combining circuit bending with the age-old medium of painting with fine art materials on canvas is a dual assertion that established music theory has until very recently made it impossible or at least very difficult for music to enter it's equivalents of the more recent movements in painting, literature, sculpture and poetry, specifically the modern, post, global and eclectic ismistic. Also that even these areas must be continually re-examined in order to maintian the validity of the avant garde in a constantly changing cultural and present setting.
