I play drums with The Mick Rutherford Band (www.myspace.com/mickrutherfordbandinfo) and ride a Harley Davidson Sportster and play a Pearl Export custom 5 shell kit. The one I play is no longer available and is a collectors item and the front skin is my trademark, it is the only one of it's kind in Europe and was espacially imported for me on 1986. I have been through the pain barrier on several occasions (Broken arm, ribs, ankle etc) but it has never stopped me hitting the skins and driving the band. I had been playing at various Jam sessions in Nottingham and was in the house band when I first met Mick. We asked for a singer to come up and sing with the band and this old guy gets up, scraggy beard, hat, shabby coat, scarf, gloves and we thought 'Christ who is this old fart'. He gets an old rocking chair from the side of the stage and sits on it with the microphone in his hand. Well, he starts singing and off comes the hat and everything and the guy is Mick, very impressive. About atwo years later we got together with the a guitarist and formed a three piece band, we hadn't got a name and I suggested we use Mick's name and just stick band at the end of it and The Mick Rutherford Band was born. I'm actually a failed guitarist, I had lessons for about two years but when the guy said that I'd never be a guitarist unless I could read music I left. After all not reading music never did The Beatles any harm. I brought a drum kit, taught myself to play and I've never looked back since. As well as the band I also do session work and, thankfully, I'm never out of work. My influences are Cream, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Kieth Moon, John Bonham and all the other great drummers. I've been lucky in my career I've played at Donnington Park, Santa Pod and played in front of 30,000 people. With The Mick Rutheford band I've played almost 1,000 gigs and have had 12 happy years with the band and am looking forward to another many happy years on the road, which I love. Over the years I've played with many of the musical greats, met a lot of wonderfull people and seen things that other people could only dream of.
