About Me

I was born and raised in Seattle, WA, and made the move to the Bay Area to follow my passion for the performing arts. In 2002, I began my studies at Mills College, leading me to perform and study with talented musicians/artists such as Terry Riley, Meredith Monk, Pauline Oliveros, Molly Holm, Larry Dunlap, The San Francisco String Quartet, Dina Emerson, Fred Frith, and Alvin Curran.
I love to sing jazz standards in intimate settings, collaborate, create, compose, and improvise. My emotions and my intuition serve as constant guides for my artistic endeavors.
I have had many years of experience as an ensemble singer/back-up vocalist, and can currently be seen singing with Kite Parade (all originals with partner-in-crime, Molly Maguire), Trés Mojo, and Wee The Band.
To hear some of my studio work on the following recent and upcoming albums: Emma (Molly Maguire), Borrowed and Blues (Charlie Docherty), BigVik Presents: Intro (Victory Brent), and One Race (Pope Flynn).

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Melody Ferrisbut of course, the magic is stirred by folks like these...past and present...Jim Talley (piano/synths) Michael Ray (bass) Tim Bolling (durms) Kurt Huget (guitar) Steve La Porta (percussion) Darren Johnston (trumpet) Lee Bloom (piano) Marcus Shelby (bass) Mike Olmos (trumpet) Sheldon Brown (sax) John King (piano) Molly Maguire (vocals/piano) Michael Burton (bass) Elizabeth Setzer (vocals/piano)
Influences: The people and things around me...the struggles and triumphs, the highs and the lows, the fear and the faith in my life and in the lives of others. Musically, I like to take my time learning artists and musicians as individuals. I savor my listening time, whether it's with Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Cole Porter, Thelonious Monk, Darren Johnston, Faye Carol, John Adams, Steve Reich, Meredith Monk, Fred Frith, Terry Riley, Verdi, Britten, Schumann, Molly Holm, Laura Nyro, Jeff Buckley, The Beatles, Radiohead, Coldplay, Aqualung, Edmund Welles, Fiona Apple, Mirah, Tori Amos, Tool, Atmosphere...really I like it all.
