About Me

I studied classical Percussion at the Fontys Conservatory. I finished my Bachelor Degree in 2005. After that I started studying Jazz Vibes with the incredible Frits Landesbergen at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, were I finished my Bachelor Degree in 2007. My secundairy subject there was Drums. I played in all kinds of formations, such as Symphony Orchestra's (Mahler 3 in 2002 * Carnegie Hall NYC, Mahler 5 in 2007 * Concert Hall Porto, Portugal) Wind-orchestras, percussion groups, ensembles. I play a lot in local amateur-orchestra's were they need a percussionist to help them out in concerts (from 2000 till 2007 between 30 and 50 concerts a year). I played in ensemble formations, such as; Percussion 2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9tets. All kinds of small combinations; vibes, piano and flute. Flute and 4 percussionists. Duo sax and marimba. 2 pianists and 2 percussionists, Piazzolla Project (6tet) etc. etc. With a close friend I started a Marimba Duo in 2004 and we played pieces such as Nagoya Marimbas and Marimba Phase (reich), Woodn'Music (rich o'meara), Alborada del gracioso (ravel), Ultimatum II (zivkovich). In 2005 I recorded Jolivets' Incantations for flute and 4 percussionists. Turned out to be a great recording. We didn't use a conductor, but a lot of very specialised musicians such as Eline van Esch (flute) and Peppi Wiersma (percussion). Also my former teacher Arnold Marinissen (great percussionist translator and performer of modern percussion music) He performed on a big festival Traces of Rythm. Arnold and the great Terry Bozzio were both Artist in Residence at that time. In 2006 I started praticing and duo-ing with a great bass player and friend of mine; Ludo van der Winkel. Now and then expanded the Duo with the great Gijs Anders van Stralen on percussion and the very talented 'Arie Gitarie' mister Aron Raams on guitar. End of 2006 I also did a recording on the new album of Wouter Hamel. Other musicians feature on that album, such as Pieter de Graaf (piano) and Benjamin Herman (alto sax), Jasper van Hulten (drums) and Sven Happel (bass). Check out the clips on TMF and Youtube. I just finished my Jazz Bachelor Cum Laude and I sincerely want to thank my fellow musicians: - Joris Posthumus (alto sax) - Franklin Schieman (tenor sax) - Pieter de Graaf (piano) - Aron Raams (guitar) - Gijs Anders van Stralen (percussion) - Ludo van der Winkel (bass) - Matthijs de Ridder (drums)
