Ministry of Truth

MINISTRY OF TRUTH cannot afford staying aloof when truth needs to be faced and acknowledged. Nor do we want our listeners to stay aloof, either. Nor do we want to draw a line between us and them. Nor do we want them to do it, either.
There’s one Truth for everyone, both those speaking and listening. Everyone equally needs truth and tries to avoid it. We want to be heard, but we’re not here to say nice things only. Cosy and comfortable truth isn’t worth a dime, is it? However, if truth is only a scarecrow it’s not worth much, either.
MINISTRY OF TRUTH was formed in Krasnodar, South Russia, in April 2007. Originally the band included two persons, namely, Minister Of Sounds (music and guitars) and Minister Of Speech (lyrics and main voice). At this seminal stage MoT’s music could be classified as dark-wave / dark-folk.
In summer, 2007 the band has recorded their debut mini-CD (self-titled). The CD-r was released by the band’s own micro label no head records. The band first played this set live on September 1, 2007 together with the Russian gothic legend MOON FAR AWAY.
November 15, 2007 MINISTRY OF TRUTH played live for the second time at a gothic party featuring ROMAN RAIN and OTTO DIX. After this gig it became absolutely clear that the band urgently needed some fresh blood.
However, six months later, May 6 2008, MINISTRY OF TRUTH played again with OTTO DIX as a duo. However, by that time MOT’s music has changed a lot. MINISTRY OF TRUTH’s new songs first played at that gig sounded harsher and more rhythmical. The band itself tended to classify this new trend in their music as dark-wave / synth-gothic.
This was when MOT first played their first song in Russian, namely, «Shirok Chelovek» (Broad is the Man, featuring F. M. Dostoevsky).
After this gig, in summer 2008, MINISTRY OF TRUTH finally became a trio. A female vocalist took the office of Minister Of Harmony. The band spent the whole summer getting prepared for a big headline concert that eventually took place September 29, 2008. In the meantime, the second mini album entitled “Night of the Soul” was recorded. This CD-R (again released by the musicians themselves), besides the three new songs, also contained a remix of MOT’s old song “Father” from a cult German band ENDRAUM. An alternative version of this remix will also be featured on ENDRAUM’s new album.
October 24, 2008 MINISTRY OF TRUTH shared the stage with DAS ICH (Germany) and GOTHIKA (Japan) at a gothic party in Krasnodar.
One week later, October 31, 2008 MOT played live outside Krasnodar for the first time. They were invited to participate in a large gothic halloween party in Volgograd and worked hard to prepare for their first "away game". The party was attended by ca. 200 gothic people who gave MOT a really warm reception. After the set, the Ministers enjoyed a midnight tour to the War Memorial which in itself was quite unforgettable.
MoT's next concert took place November 25, 2008 and once again was hosted by the Zazerkalye club (Krasnodar).
December 5, 2008 Ministry of Truth played another "away game", this time the band took part in a gothic party at the legendary Podzemka venue in Rostov-on-Don.
MINISTRY OF TRUTH is currently working on their first full-length album (in English) that will include reworked versions of the previously recorded songs and some previously unreleased material. There are also some arrangements with several artists willing to remix MINISTRY OF TRUTH’s tracks for the remix section of the album.
The band’s long-term agenda includes recording a full-length album in Russia, a mini-album in German and a mini-opera in English. The band’s working hard in all these directions, and some of the stuff can be heard now at live shows.
