Art21 was founded as non-profit contemporary art organization in 1997 with the mission to increase knowledge of contemporary art, ignite discussion, and inspire creative thinking by using diverse media to present contemporary artists at work and in their own words.
Art21 illuminates the creative process for students, teachers, and the general public by producing a television series, books, multimedia resources, and public programs that focus on a geographically and culturally diverse cross-section of artists working in the United States today. Over the past 10 years, Art21 has had a major impact in increasing public awareness and understanding of who artists are and what they do.
