Cougar Melonscent

About Me

Cougar Melonscent began in 1994 when Mel decided she wanted to learn to play the drums. She got together with D. Boone and played around until some songs emerged. They jammed briefly with Chris Sturgeon (Vacation Bible School, No Frog Difference, Meringue & currently Leels & NutTank) on bass until Chris dropped out & suggested Vic Davis as bassist. Thus, the birth of the greatest band Gainesville, Florida has ever known. A year or so later, Jon Moon joined on rhythm guitar & added a little pop vocal action to the mix. Vic insisted on dropping the "Cougar" & the band was henceforth known as simply Melonscent. After saving up a hard-earned $200 from playing a few sparsely populated Hardback Cafe shows, the band attempted recording their debut album to be released on Brian Doherty's Cherry Smash label. Unfortunately, the junkie recording engineer, Roger Forshay (then drummer of Meringue) made off with the cash & the only remaining vestige of the recording exists on a little rough-mix cassette tape that Mel recently burned to CD & posted on this page at Myspace for the world to appreciate. Enjoy.
