Paula Van Rees

Raised in Victoria Australia, growing up on farms and race-horse properties, Paula Van Rees was born into an extremely NON-musical family, a career in music was the furthest from anyone's mind.... - However..... In 1995 Glen Ballard produced the album Jagged Little Pill for Alanis Morissette. In Paula's words it was mind blowing and unknowingly at the time, changed her life. Her first ever audition was for the Australian Alanis tribute show. Urged along nervously by friends, she got the job and was hooked on performing immediately. Paula had found her ideal career and excited by the new possibility of making a living from her voice, she later completed Griffith University's Bachelor of Popular Music degree- a three year, full time degree focused on record production, audio engineering and music industry business skills, based at the Conservatorium. Fate has seen travel to Los Angeles where Paula spent time with Grammy award winning writers/producers. A natural net worker, she has met and made connections with artists & industry professionals such as Gwen Stefani, Black Eyed Peas, Grammy winning producer/writer Glen Ballard, as well as Grammy winning engineer/mixer Andy Wallace. Always developing new tracks, her songs have already impressed some top names. Paula was invited back to Los Angeles to record with Printz Board (producer/musical director of Black Eyed Peas) and George Pajon Jr (BEP Guitar god), and would love to accept, if schedules allign in the future... Aside from her music, Paula is an award winning Burlesque performer. Classy, dynamic routines may include Paula singing, dancing, displaying strength/athletic skill during her circus stunts on aerial ring, silks, trapeze or vertical pole. Paula may even be seen seducing the audience from behind her giant ostrich feather fans and it's not uncommon for her to often combine many of these specialties into her multi-format productions. Erotic and sensual yet tastefully elegant, Paula's "Showgirl alter-ego" is cheeky, fun and loves wearing amazing Moulin Rouge / Cabaret styled costumes and head pieces. Many of her favourite items are custom-made by the incredibley talented Samantha Sultana -designer to Burlesque super-star Dita Von Teese, as well as style icons including Christina, Gwen Stefani, Fergie, and Madonna. A versatile and natural talent in performance art, she is also a wonderful teacher and mentor to her keen Burlesque students.
