Matt Kennon is an intriguing combination of explosive talent and outrageous manner. From the colored tattoos that adorn his arms and chest, to the whiskey voice, Matt is totally unique. His life is a living version of the penultimate country song.
Were it not for a dose of extraordinary luck, Matt would not even be in this world. His mother, a poor woman who barely could support one young son, had made the painful decision to abort him. She arrived at her doctor's office two weeks too late to have the abortion performed, and was told she had no choice but to carry the baby full term. The same doctor had another patient, a mother of four who had tragically lost three of her children in a house fire. Unable to have more children, she and her husband had despaired of ever having another baby. The doctor arranged a private adoption between Matt's biological mother and the young couple, and Matt came into this world with the full benefit of a loving family in a beautiful suburb of Atlanta.
Growing up, Matt knew two things about himself: One, Matt knew that one day he wanted to know his biological family, to fill in the missing pieces of his heritage. His dark coloring was in stark contrast to his adopted family's looks, and he had a desire to know his roots. With the blessing of his adoptive family, he set out at the age of 17 to find his birth family. While the adoptive records were sealed, Matt did not take "no" for an answer, and in true "Matt style," he persevered until he found his biological parents and brother. From conversations with his birth father, Matt learned that he was half Cherokee, half French. The questions that were answered satisfied his longing to know his personal history, and gave him an appreciation of both his birth and adoptive families. He continues to seek out other half siblings to this day.
The second thing that life ingrained in Matt from his earliest breath was the love for music. He performed at every opportunity for his family, friends, and at school, and began playing the guitar while a teenager. He gravitated toward both country and rock, and from that, he developed his own progressive contemporary country style. He is a lot of country, and a little bit rock 'n' roll. As a songwriter, his lyrics tell his story and the stories of countless others who have been challenged by life and have overcome the odds to achieve success. As a singer, the passion behind his life experience is in every note.
Matt has yet another devotion besides music. It is his enthusiasm for Choppers, specifically Harleys. The exhilaration he feels as he tools down the highway, turned on by the freedom of the road, is as much a part of him as are his tattoos.
From his refreshing openness and gut honesty in manner, to his appetite for expressing life as a musician, Matt Kennon is just who he is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
