Nova Scotia

About Me

Nova Scotia was formed in 1996 by Dean Brown, Richard Whyte and Rick Jensen. Under their original name of Negative Eh they released 5 records, all limited edition acetates. The first was "What the Fuck is Fahrenheit" in 1997 a self release, with Rick on guitar and vocals, Richard on guitar and Dean on drums, it was a mixture of songs and improvisations. In 1998 they released their second LP Hotel/Motel , the same instruments but with no vocals and it was entirely improvised. The following year came three releases a 7" called "Night/Day" (on the Blue Silver label), an 8" "Oceanography" on Secret Safari and a track on Crawlspace Records compilation "Mailorder". over the following couple of years Nova Scotia experimented more and more with their live performances eventually losing the guitar/guitar/drums lineup to include saxophones, electronics, piano, toys, loops, radios, cello, violins & home made instruments. Due to band members starting other projects and often living in different places, performances became less and less regular.
In 2002 Nova Scotia released their first CD (and first widely available album) "Tangiwai" (on Metonymic). This was also the first release under the name Nova Scotia, a decision made due to the new sound the band had taken. Over the next 3 years there were only 1 or 2 live performances a year, due to members travelling and focussing on other projects. No more releases followed until "Ramses II" on the Pseudo Arcana label in 2005.
At this point in time Rick and Dean are living in London, and Richard is in New Zealand. We are currently formatting unreleased pieces for possible release, and plan to begin recording by mail (something new to us). MyGen Profile Generator
