The Herberts was working class Oi! punk rock band from Paris.
They formed in 1990 and disbanded in 1995.
They were traditional Skinheads.
'Traditional' means based on the spirit of the 1969 Skinhead movement and handed over to taste the day by British 80's Oi! Skinhead bands like The 4 Skins, The Last Resort , The Oppressed and Nabat for Italy who were models and heroes.
Street punk rock bands like Sham 69, Angelic Upstarts and Cockney Rejects were on their plates every day.
The Herberts have been formed on the ashes of Les Gavroches a multiracial Skinhead band playing roots Ska & Oi! in Paris late 80's.
The first sessions of the band were originally produced by Francois (ex-Bérurier Noir, who at the time was the singer of Molodoï ) and then flew on their own self-producing their studio sessions...
Klasse Kriminale was the Italian Oi! connection of The Herberts... Real mates.
The 7" singles of the Herberts were immediately sold out in pre orders and have become French Oi! classics.
The Herberts were like ALIENS in the French Rock scene at the beginning of 90's.
There was no more Skin/Punk- Oi! scene at all like the French golden age of the 80s and it was very far from 2008.
After 'Dans La Rue' ( 'In The Streets') a tune like 'Haïs & Fiers' ('Hated & Proud') was one of their most (in)famous anthem and it was a very good summary of the situation.
The band was very loved and supported by some and well hated by others.
Something very natural for a Skinhead band of course.
Being a Skinhead was a choice and a way of life.
Oi! was the real sound of the working class kids revolt!
The Herberts was a sincere band of very young bootboys who sang the street and pavement because that is what they knew best. They dragged in bars, they dragged in the streets, in concerts, on stage or in the pit, they were there, though present.
Not one of these ghost band never in trouble because they remain locked at home or in a studio.
It was Paris in 1990. Intensive years of violence, aggrovation, confusion, booze, laughs, parties, sweat, blood, tears, fun and fury...
