REUBEN’S BASS CHOIR is a project that has been rolling around in my head since 1985 when I got the opportunity to play "2 bass" w/bassist Melvin Gibbs (Arto Lindsay, Harriet Tubman, Jean-Paul Bourelly) in Ronald Shannon Jackson’s Decoding Society!
Our styles are noticably different, but we also had similarities in how we look @ bass & the places it can go...& do!!
It doesn’t have to be mush or a big blob of low-end!!
A few years later @ North Sea Jazz Fest while on tour w/Steve Coleman; I saw Jamaaladeen Tacuma do multi-basses w/Gerald Veasley & John Ore. I flipped my dreads!! (@ that time)
I started composing music & looking for cats that had special voices on their instruments & would be willing to be involved w/that much BASS in ONE PLACE!!
Take a listen to the tune ideas. Enjoy bass......Reuben’s Bass Choir!!
