About Me

2000. This was the first time I had ever entered the recording studio with the intention and plan of recordng a full length album. I wanted to produce a collection of songs that reflected the sound of just me and my guitar, singing my songs in a room. This approach and format allowed my to explore different styles of guitar playing, from bluegrass flatpicking to melodic finger picking slide. My hope was that this CD would get me some gigs. And it did. I got to play at the Cygnet folk festival in Tasmania and the Maldon folk festival in Victoria. This CD also saw me working with Richard Robinson once again. I had played with Richard in Colour Jungle (1989-90) and he had recorded and mixed The New Leaves (1999) and he had played guitar on feel like karen silkwood (1997) and he helped master smile of peace (1997). It was a pleasure working with Richard again. The final part of the sound production process was getting Ross Cockle to master the songs at Sing Sing studios (The Living End were in the main studio that night recording). Cockle had been the engineer on Midnight Oil's Bird Noises EP, music that was part of my senior high school memories. The illustration which was the front cover, was a pencil sketch of a European settler's cottage in rural Victoria by my Grandfather Ralph Williams.
