She spent five years in the top 5 finishing runner up to Layne Beachley, in 1998, 1999 and finished third in 2000. In 2005, after a two-year hiatus from the elite tier of competition due to 2 serious injuries, Brooke made the final at the SPC Fruit Pro at Bells Beach and the semis at the Roxy Pro Haleiwa, but ended the year in number 12 on the ladder.
