About Me
On a full moon after many open mic nights, rehearsals and gigs, Erik Rabasca quit his day job to pursue music full time. Soon thereafter, his first recording with Lunar Detour caught the end of the jam funk wave. That self-titled debut captured a positive moment in time, light-hearted and uplifting. But this was only the first step in pursuit of what was yet to come. The next project veered into electronica where Rabasca pursued guitar sound explorations through stompboxes, noise, feedback and KAOSS pad effects while learning the art of cut and paste techniques from his friend and drummer Dave Hill Jr., who taught him how to use Ableton's Live 1.0 software. This collaboration became Brainboxing who created an EP that Hill eventually expanded into the full length release, "Looks Like Space To Me" (check it on MySpace and iTunes). This process also spawned the birth of Rabasca's electronic alter-ego, cuebrane.Inspired by both Brainboxing and a jam session with Drew Moss, the drummer of The Reverend Mofo, cuebrane emreged during the process of recording an unrelased full-length record called "Drilling The Brain" (coming soon to MySpace). Lo-fi and gritty, these instrumental recordings translate into sound the filth and grime of city streets and the aftermath of post 9-11 reality that could not be described with words. Throughout this computer-music exploration phase, he performed solo acoustic and with Lunar Detour locally in Brooklyn and Manhattan. It was during this time that Rabasca fell in love with all reggae styles. But it was DUB music that struck the deepest tone and soon became the biggest influence. And, being an adventurous soul, he pursued joining a dub band, in spite of the fact that he had yet to know what a good skank was.Rabasca joined Trumystic in 2003, who toured relentlessly to hone their dub craft. This was high times, touring the country, playing for audiences of as little as five people and as much as 10,000!! This band was (and still is) on a mission and recorded a double CD called "Dub Power" (2004), where Rabasca contributed as a guitarist and songwriter. In addition to this release, highlights during this period were Dub Perspective Mondays at Black Betty with Ras I-Ray, Dub Is A Weapon's Dave Hahn and various other guests, and tours with The Easy Star All Stars, The Meditations and Mad Professor!!!But, essential to this current release was the introduction to Ismael Allen, who was the drummer and co-MC for Trumystic when Rabasca first joined the band. Allen left the group to pursue recording, engineering and production full time. He enlisted Rabasca's electric and electronic guitar services (or was it cuebrane?) for several sessions ranging from hip-hop and funk to rock and, even, Haitian-jazz-hop experimentations. Consciously and unconsciously, those sessions seeped into Rabasca's songwriting.Beginning in mid-2006, NO MORE DIVISION was conceived, developed and recorded at Allen's MidiMania Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The radio edit of the title track is available here. The 12-song full-length release will be available to you by Fall 07.
