It all started in his youth, hearing the Prodigy’s “Fire†(“I am the god of hellfireâ€!) on the radio when he was 9. Not really knowing what kind of music it was and having never heard anything like it, all he knew was he fucking loved it! From then on, hearing his brother’s copy of Rebel MC’s Word Sound Power album, lead him to the sounds of the Rave, Jungle, Hardcore and everything in between.
Chancing on a copy of Drum n Bass Selection 4 when it was first released, (Suburban Base), he quickly realised where his true love lay, deep in the amen! Something about the layered up, edited to fuck amens, searing snares n kicks, and the rudest warping bass lines just made the spine tingle, and there was no going back from then on. Playing a massive part in the jungle upbringing were the tape packs from classic events such as, Jungle Fever, Roast, AWOL, One Nation, Hysteria, Desert Strom, Dreamscape, Slammin Vinyl and Helter Skelter, and it was the hours spent rinsing out these tapes round mates houses that inspired Mr.Dubz to start dj’ing. So at 15 he got his first decks. Over the next few years, Mr. Dubz would fully immerse himself into the scene, from dj’ing at far to many house parties to remember and local pirate radio, buying tunes week in week out at VM, locking into 1 In The Jungle (who remembers the first show!?!) and SCR Radio, going to the legendary NY Sushi and generally, living, eating and breathing Drum n Bass. He has made over ten appearances at the Legendary Tuesday Club, countless appearances at various Junglist Alliance Raves (Bass Bar, Jungle Juice), invited to play at Shinobi (Hull), Sheffield Live FM Radio show and many more. He has appeared alongside some of the scenes biggest names including, Goldie, Dillinja, Top Cat, TC, Hype, Altern8, proving the diversity of Mr. Dubz’s record box!
Cue production time! In 2001, he completed a year in MIDI Programming at The Red Tape studios. Finding full time work an unfortunate necessity, production is now really up off the ground, and still pushing the DJ’ing all his spare time. His production skills continue to progress at a fast pace, whilst now also completing a degree in Music Production & Sound Recording, to quote a sample in an old Andy C tune, “this is only the beginningâ€!!
BIG UP TO EVERYONE IN THE SCENE. KEEP RAVIN’!..
