About Me

From 1973 to 1977 while writing for BLACK MUSIC Magazine CARL I (then Carl Gayle) became the Godfather of Reggae journalists. It was he who first made the world aware of the roots and the culture of Reggae Music. His monthly articles, and interviews with the best loved reggae artists from Jamaica, helped to establish Reggae’s global fan base and even inspired all genres of music journalists worldwide to take a much keener interest than ever before in the music of Jamaica, its language and its culture. Now the ex journalist, and publisher of Rastafari journal JAHUG, has produced his long awaited first CD album KEEP MY FIRE BURNIN. This is “conscious roots reggae” at its best whose main message reveals the brutality and inhumanity of Western Europe’s imperialism in the songs Heart Of Darkness, Neo Colonial Africa and title track Keep My Fire Burnin. Spiritual heights are attained meanwhile in Light Of The Universe, Ises, Rastafari (featuring a soulful saxophone solo by Afro Jazz veteran Bukky Leo), and the Nyahbinghi chant Closer Than A Brother. Social commentary brings more balance to the lyrical themes with Who Kill The DJ and Queen Of The Streets, as do more self revealing songs on different aspects of love such as Rare Moments, The Remedy and One With You All.This is 21st century reggae music with ancient tones of soulful jazz horns and classical piano touches. Mature and distinct from other reggae currently available, the music here urges its audience to listen closely and grows more memorable with each play...
