"Any Old Memory Will Do" ...and be sure to crank'er up real LOUD!!! ) ) ) * * *Why this name? Austin Glen is Austin's birth name given by his mother and is a tribute to his grandfathers... the late Melvin Austin Wiser and the late Frank Glen Pettit. Austin loves & misses them both!Do you play live? Austin first performed live (cut his teeth so to speak) in and around his birthplace and boyhood home of Carlinville, a small farm town in south central Illinois with a cousin's band "Miss Lisa Pettit & the Country Four" between 1982 and 1986...After visiting his sister Kelly Ann in the exciting and somewhat breathtaking city of San Antonio... Austin returned home to Illinois, began packing, and made the move to south Texas on January 01, 1987! (Austin says he will never forget his first day in Texas... he was on the golf course, wearing shorts and a tee-shirt and it was 81 degrees!) Once there, Austin managed to audition successfully for the lead male vocalist position at the soon to open "Darryl Starbird's Original Texas Opry House", a 500 seat country music theatre located on the beautiful Riverwalk in the heart of downtown San Antone... there Austin had the privilege to perform in two shows daily from April 1987 through February of '89. Mr. Starbird also used Austin and the cast to open for several name acts at his famous "Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Car Shows" in several major cities... Chubby Checker and Tommy "Sweet Pea" Roe to name just a few! Sadly, Mr. Starbird chose to close the S.A. venue (which now houses the Coyote Ugly Saloon) in February of 1989... just a few months prior to the explosion of country music and the descent of superstar Garth Brooks! In the spring of '89, after experiencing country music in a professional "theatre-style" setting... Austin decided to move to the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks area, known as the mecca of music theatres or "music theatre country" where he again successfully landed a spot as lead male vocalist in "The Warren Stokes Country Revue", a 1,000 seat "state of the art" music theatre near Branson, Missouri. There he again continued to perform two shows daily (touring the midwest by bus during the winter off-season) until it was purchased by new owners in late 1991.In early '92, Austin signed a co-management deal with Brewer-Crow Artist Management out of Oklahoma and continued to commute between Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Illinois and Nashville, Tennessee while negotiations took place between his management and CURB RECORDS NASHVILLE. During this lengthy negotiation process Austin had the opportunity to record several Nashville demos and continued to perform "live" when and wherever possible. Negotiations with CURB continued through the latter part of '93. After the major-label recording contract failed to materialize, Austin was released from contract, licked his wounds, and began preparing to relocate "for the music" but once again.Austin's next destination... In the fall of '93, Austin returned to his beloved south texas river city of San Antonio where he, his new-found friend Donna MacLeod and several others helped to form his very own band... calling it... none other than... what else... ( ( ( "Destination: TEXAS" !!! ) ) ). He continued to "pay his dues" performing nearly every weekend somewhere in south Texas for the better part of the next three years... at one point taking ~1st Place~ in a six week, multi-band battle of the bands competition sponsered by the South Texas Music Association! During this stint in Texas, Austin made several return trips to Nashville... recording new demos with the very best musicians and recording engineers in the world. In 1996, Austin packed up and was on the move again... this time to finally take up residence near "Music City USA" where he now contently hangs his hat, living just 30 minutes south of Nashville, Tennessee... just a stones throw from "Music Row", the world's best musicians, the giant wheels of the music industry and the world famous stage of "The Grand Ole Opry"!Between 1996 and 2007, Austin has had the priveledge to perform several times on the World's Longest Running Radio Show... "Ernest Tubb's Midnight Jamboree" which is broadcast "Live" over the Grand Ole Opry's WSM Radio! The "World Famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge" and "The Nashville Palace" are just a few of the venues where Austin has also taken the stage! Wherever he performs... blessed with his big, rich baritone voice... always neat in appearance and a known sharp dresser... Austin always seems to go over quite well with his audience. Besides the talent... he's just a very friendly, laid back, sometimes crazy, likeable guy!Austin is very excited and quite proud to be currently back "in studio" working on brand new material for the ~WISER RECORDS NASHVILLE~ label!* * * ( ( ( Be sure and listen to the first two newly completed tracks from the upcoming Austin Glen album... an excellent country shuffle and 2-Step dance number entitled "Any Old Memory Will Do" and the belly rubbin', belt buckle polishing traditional waltz called "Time Seems To Run Backwards" ... Austin says... and don't forget to put your dancin' boots on and crank'er up... real LOUD!!! ) ) ) * * *You can still catch Austin when he jumps up and performs in and around Nashville every chance he gets!Austin says... "It's been quite the ride"! ...the party continues...He hopes to see (You!)... in Nashville... real soon!~WISER RECORDS NASHVILLE~ Music City, Tennessee USA
