Tolgahan Cogulu

Born in Ankara in 1978. Tolgahan Çoğulu studied classical guitar with Ayhan Akkaya, Ricardo Moyano, Soner Egesel and Bekir Kucukay between 1997-2006. He entered Istanbul Technical University, Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM), classical guitar graduate program in 2001. In 2004 he entered the doctoral program. He finished his PhD Thesis entitled "The Adaptation of Baglama Techniques into Classical Guitar Performance" in 2010. He attended classical guitar festivals of Lambesc, Esztregom, Iserlohn and Westfalian Guitar Spring, studied with guitarists such as Roland Dyens, Jorge Cardoso, Elena Papandreau, Lily Afshar, Thomas Kirchhoff and took part in the closing concerts. He gave lecture recitals in York University, University of Memphis, “4th Annual Hawaii International Conference on Arts & Humanities” and “Portugal Aveiro University Performa’07: Conference on Performance Studies.” He has founded ensembles called "Duoist", "Istanbul Flute-Guitar Duo" and "Duo Aqua." He designed "Adjustable Microtonal Guitar" in 2008. At present, he is working as a research assistant at Istanbul Technical University. He is also a member of Bosphorus Performing Arts Ensemble (BGST) and played in ‘Kardes Turkuler’ and ‘45’lik Sarkilar’ projects.
