This is Dean!In the past few years I've released 8 CDs. The first two are "The Dean Dobbins Band, Volume One" and "The Dean Dobbins Band, Volume Two," containing 23 original songs previously available only on cassette. Most of the songs were recorded around 1990, when the band was voted California Country Music Association (CCMA) Band of the Year and I received CCMA awards for Male Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year. In 2003 "He Can Dance" from Volume One and "One More For The Road" from Volume Two both reached the top 20 on the European Music Service (EMS) chart. "Writers and Pickers" from Volume One reached the top 10. Band members on these recordings were Candy Lerman on fiddle, Bob Gothar on guitar, Colin Cameron on bass and George Green on drums. Most songs also included Danny Timms on piano and Tommy Spurlock on steel. Other musicians included David McKelvy on harmonica, Buddy Miller on guitar, Greg Leisz and Gary Morse on steel, Doug Livingston on both piano and steel, Carol and Howard Yearwood on bass and guitar, John Lee White on drums. Please see the "reviews" section below to read some very flattering comments about both Dean Dobbins Band CDs.In 1995 I recorded my "Thank Heaven" CD at John McDuffie's studio in Los Angeles. I wrote and sang all 15 songs. Several former Dean Dobbins Band musicians performed on this project, which features the guitar/dobro/pedal steel playing of John McDuffie and the fiddle playing of Candy Lerman. My "Train Car 4" CD was recorded in 2000 at former Dean Dobbins Band guitar/steel player Tommy Spurlock's Nashville studio. I wrote all 13 songs but sang only 2. Most of the Nashville-recorded songs were sung by male and female Nashville demo singers. "Out The Window," "Overdose" and "Their Own Piece of Heaven" were sung by Buddy Jewell, recent winner of the Nashville Star tv contest and now a recording artist for Sony Records. The opening song "I Still Do," sung by Gary Floyd, was recorded at Marty Rifkin's studio in LA. The CD also includes Jeff Allen's version of "Topanga Canyon Road," inspired by a beautiful road in Los Angeles.Completed in 9/03, my first solo CD "Rickety Boat" contains 24 piano/vocal and guitar/vocal recordings. A few of the songs were recorded in Nashville studios, but I recorded most in my home studio. I wrote and sang all 24 songs and played guitar or piano on most. "Fly Again" is a similar project containing 26 piano/vocal and guitar/vocal recordings. And the third solo CD "Airplane Food" contains 23 original songs including title song "Airplane Food" and "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee," inspired by Dee Brown's famous book of that title. For flattering reviews of my 3 solo CDs, please see "Reviews" below. In the past few years I've been performing solo on piano and guitar at small clubs in the LA area.
