About DonkeyPunk - a brief BIO...
DonkeyPunk was formed in early 2006 from the ashes of several burnt out bands whose futures were becoming increasingly uncertain. Consisting of Sam Polwart (vocals), Peter Rowlands (lead guitar), Richard Hurliman (rhythm guitar), Alan Grainger (bass) and Logan Wedgwood (drums) - DonkeyPunk is an energetic, spontaneous and fast-paced rock band, with a punk twist, whose unmatched enthusiasm is taking the music world by storm.
After seven months of intensive writing and practising, the bands first shows at the Kings Arms and then the Studio in Auckland were a phenomenal success, well-received by fans and other music professionals alike. A collection of gigs since then have seen their burgeoning fan-base continue to grow, as well as the respect from other talented bands they have had the honour to play with.
DonkeyPunk has a vision and goal of launching into the global music scene with a powerful intensity - intensity being one thing that these boys have no shortage of. Anyone who has seen them play comments on the unrivalled energy that is a cornerstone of DonkeyPunk’s live shows. On stage, their performance is unmatched, combining acrobatic visuals with music that is not only impressive musically, but has an infectious bounce quality that won’t leave your head for days.
All of DonkeyPunk’s members have vast previous experience in the music industry and contribute to creating the dynamic sound DonkeyPunk is becoming known for. One thing they all share in common however, is their trademark hard-working attitude and dedication to their dream. Although relatively new on the scene, DonkeyPunk exhibit a professionalism and talent that is hard to beat.
Summer 2007 saw the first phase of the ‘DonkeyPunk explosion’ as the band released their first single: the infectious Summer anthem ‘You’re Yuck’, a raw, edgy and unorthodox pop song that was a fitting introduction for a band that refuses to work any other way than their own. Both the single and corresponding music video were entirely self-funded, true to form from a band that is dedicated to creating their own opportunities in a fiercely competitive and oversaturated music scene.
Continuing to build on the momentum of their first single’s release, DonkeyPunk embarked on an entirely self-funded and self-managed North Island tour, the hectic schedule of which saw DonkeyPunk showcasing their vivid stage show in some of the greatest venues in the country. Here they were able to reach a wider variety of fans and prove that they are not only gifted songwriters, but also an energetic and powerful live act.
Following that, DonkeyPunk released their second single 'Missconception' in April 2007. Whereas the first single was pop with a punk twist, the second will be more of an epic rock ballad, stronger and reflective of a more soulful side to the boys, and carrying another positive and inspiring message.
As far as things go, there is so much more in the pipeline for this talented group. DonkeyPunk have been working hard to record their debut album, which is due for release mid-October. Following that, they are organising an Australian Tour for Summer 70/08. Without a doubt this band is, and will continue to be, one to look out for.
