THE GREEN ALBUM is out now on the UniverSOUL blog

About Me

I started making beats with Remote, the other half of UNi, back in the late 90's. Before that I'd been DJing, mostly hip hop, and rhymin' with friends since I was 16 or so ('bout '94). We use to chill at my man BK's basement, surrounded by Alf-1's graffiti (that kid was 12 or 13 back then...man has he come a long way), smoke blunts, drink 40s, spin records and rhyme all night. The whole culture was new to me back then. I would just roll out there and soak it in. The shit was so fresh man...BK's rhyming was the most natural thing I've ever heard to this day, and it's been many of shows and cyphers since. Burous had this super raw Heltah Skeltah/Pharoah Monch style and Downs had this super clever Q-tip sounding style. I used to just DJ for them until my rhyming skills where worthy.Since then it's been a continuous effort to sharpen and hone my skills. My hands got really rusty on the tables after kids like Alf and other friends started DJing. Then, like I said, Remote and I started making beats and that was IT! I loved it. It took about a year for us to figure out sampling. Before that we would be up on Limewire trying to think of any instrument or sound that we could to download and we would manipulate that and some drums into a beat. But once I figured sampling out...well...that's what you hearing now.I love the 70's Soul shit. That Soulful sound really reaches me. Most of the music I make is sampled from those records. I've always listened to a wide variety of music and I like to dig through everything from psychodelic rock, funk, jazz, world, raggae...whatever.I had to edit this profile for the first time since posting it ?? years ago.I just dropped my first project THE GREEN ALBUM on my 29th birthday, May 27th 2008. The GREEN ALBUM is a full-length Hip Hop remix album over all Al Green sample-made beats. Most of the songs being remixed come from hip hop’s “golden era.” Artist such as De La Soul, Mos Def, Big L, Ghostface, Method Man, Notorious B.I.G., Pharcyde, Nas, AZ, Pharoahe Monch, Fugees, Jay-Z, Das Efx, Mobb Deep, and Busta Rhymes. I added a few other artists that I’m a fan of such as MF DOOM, Saukrates, and FINALE. I will almost definitely make a few more tracks in addition to those. Go download it for free now! - http://universoulproductions.wordpress.com/2008/05/28/omer-s aar-the-green-album-free-download/ Truth is, with the exception of about 7 new tracks that I did for THE GREEN ALBUM within the week prior to its release, I haven't made 1 beat since moving to Cali 2 years ago. I have no intentions of stopping to make music. My creative juices are always flowing, but I need to get my money right. I've always refused to rely on my art for financial support. I need to be able to immerse myself in the creative process and I can't do that right now, so instead of putting more garbage out there, I'm steady grinding and chasing dreams.
I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
