TRAP OF THE TRAP: In 2001 a wild and unlikely duo launched forth on to the Southern California music scene. Beginning under various monikers, TRAP OF THE TRAP would morph in to one of the undergrounds most mysterious bands.
TRAP started out as an experimental noise band, creating scruffy and intimidating yet gently ambient rag-tag compositions. They became expansive music explorers, recording tons of songs and swapping their tapes with friends. Under Radialsesamoid Records TRAP OF THE TRAP captured and lost a slew of material, that played as a foundation for Los Angeles’ most curious audio investigators. Their sound was constantly evolving, Blues, Country, Folk, Peppered with Rock, Putting them in a new league for questioning listeners
The first time I saw TRAP OF THE TRAP was in the fall of 2005, I went intending to see the next band but showed up early for the opening acts. All I can recall is being absolutely entranced as the TRAP burst out in to one of their hypnotic psychedelic live sets. Their songs swirled in my bones all night. It was not hard to see why people were so captivated. I saw them one night in L.A. a year later and I fell to my knees. On the way home I was clueless to how they could play with such ferverous energy.
Never satisfied, from 2001 to the present TRAP have managed to produce and grow as musicians. These genre-shifting jammers have tipped their hats to everything from the most obscure records in rock history to world and classical music. Packing up their heavy gear, the ragged vagabonds of TRAP OF THE TRAP continued their innovative approach while maintaining their trademark sound and feel.
The collection of songs on this player is intended as an adventurous wayward distillation, that spans several years. For those recently initiated in to the realm of TRAP OF THE TRAP, I hope this is the start of a new sonic beginning.
