About Me

HELP OTHERS If you are or know someone that suffers from Social Anxiety & Severe Panic Disorders, please help them by being a friend and helping them find a similar program, because odds are, they're afraid to help themselves. On August 7/07, brothers, Todd and Brigham Shearon left for a potentially record breaking trip called the "fastest trip to visit all major league stadiums". In a nutshell, in order to break this actual Guiness World Record, the Shearon brothers would have to travel to all 30 major league stadiums to watch a complete game in only 28 days. This had been a fantasy trip for several years. The main reason it has never happened is greatly in part to Brigham's social anxiety disorder and panic attacks. Brigham rarely goes out and about due to his situation. Todd being the patient brother he is has always dealt with constant delays and stressful situations due to his brother's panic attacks, freak outs, paranoia and occasional vomitting at the side of the road caused by his sever anxiety disorder. At the beginning of last year's baseball season Todd and Brigham were watching the Detroit Tigers play the Kansas City Royals. A young pitcher named Zack Greinke for the Royals was pitching his first game this season. As common an occurance as this seems, the prior year Greinke missed the season due to social anxiety disorder. It nearly cost him his career. Brigham couldn't understand how this guy who had the same disorder as him could pitch in the major leagues when he could barely handle going to watch a game. Brigham decided that if this guy could face his fears and play in the majors then he could face his fears as well. Brigham who was undergoing treatment through the Mood and Anxiety Program at the time was chauffered by Todd in order to help him work toward solving his problem. After successfully completing the program, plans were started to attempt to break the Guiness World Record, "fastest trip to visit all major league stadiums". Todd and Brigham decided it would only make sense to give back to the program that helped him mentally prepare for this trip. With Brigham still petrified of the thought of this trip becoming a reality, Todd attained the ultimate inspiration for his kid brother, an autographed Vernon Wells baseball. While recently conducting an interview with Vernon Wells for Canada Social Magazine, Todd got Vernon to sign a recently caught home run ball to Brigham, which read..."To Brigham. Don't Be Scared. Vernon Wells." Brigham who has developed a great respect for Vernon Wells after he remained a Toronto Blue Jay, swore he'd pull it together and do the trip, and that he'd carry that autographed baseball with him the whole way. That he did. The potentially record breaking trip started in Toronto on August 7 and ended 28 days later at Yankee Stadium in New York on September 3rd.

Social Anxiety Disorder.Social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia, is a diagnosis within psychiatry and other mental health professions referring to excessive long-lasting social anxiety causing relatively extreme distress and impaired ability to function in at least some areas of daily life. Approximately 13.3% of the general population may meet criteria for social anxiety disorder at some point in their lifetime, according to the highest survey estimate, with the male to female ratio being 1:1.5 respectively.Physical symptoms often accompanying social anxiety disorder include excessive blushing, sweating (hyperhidrosis), trembling, palpitations, nausea, and stammering. Panic attacks may also occur under intense fear and discomfort. An early diagnosis may help in minimizing the symptoms and the development of additional problems such as depression. Some sufferers may use alcohol or other drugs to reduce fears and inhibitions at social events.
