A Seasonal Effect goes back to days spent in a guitar appreciation class at a Southern California high school. When Alex Bemis met Suraj Sood in class they laid down the foundation that would later become ASE. They worked on some simple chord progressions and basic lyrics and became an acoustic duo, with Alex singing and playing guitar and Suraj playing bass. After a few acoustic shows they began to wonder. Why did people avoid their shows the same way they avoided Disney’s California Adventure? And at this point Andrew Freedman was the ideal addition to the band. Alex and Suraj showed Andrew some of their work with pride and confidence, eagerly awaiting an exclamation of their goodness - and Andrew barfed. He added depth and soul to ASE’s guitar work. However, even this did not satisfy Alex’s egotistic needs. He knew that the only way to gather a fan base was to recruit drummer Ryan Takemura, who got all the songs down in the first couple of practices. The line-up has since consisted of Alex on vocals and rhythm guitar, Suraj on bass, Andrew on lead guitar, and Ryan on drums. With an array of influences from pop to metal to jazz, a growing 10+ song set, and too much pizza, ASE is headed in the right direction - anywhere but Disney’s California Adventure.
