World’s First Flying Machine

About Me

World’s First Flying Machine is a seven-piece band from Champaign-Urbana. They’ve been called “Noise Folk” and “Freak Pop” and “Oddly Instrumented.”
World’s First Flying Machine has been playing in Chicago, Champaign, points between since the Fall of 2007. They’ve played with Black Mountain, The Brunettes, Titus Andronicus, Headlights, Throw me the Statue, Nurses, Crocodiles, David Dondero, and Dark Meat. They've played in an elevator, an Urban Outfitters, a kitchen, at Schubas, next to railroad tracks, and other notable places. They’ll be playing throughout the Midwest in January 2010 and everywhere else in the summer.

The 9-track album was recorded at Great Western Record Recorders in Tolono, Ill. with Matt Talbott (lead singer/ guitarist of Hum) in the winter of ’08 –’09. It was mastered by Jonathon Pines at Private Studios in Urbana, Ill.
"World's First Flying Machine pulls from a variety of aural elements, from the orchestral to the childlike, mixing violins with handclaps and tinkling bells. Their songs are most stirring, however, when these fanciful sounds give birth to vibrant stories of their own. The opener, "Inefficient Machines", turns its self-criticisms into a celebration of flaws, embracing the twists and turns that make The House You're Living In worth listening to. There are no pop beats, no synthesizers, no autotune — in fact, it's the organic feel of the album that gives it such life." - Annie, Weisner, Smile Politely dot com
