The MVM3NT© Manifesto:Greetings past, present and future comrades,For the past six months my Brother iREVOLT1977 and I have been developing a form of socio-political progressive art that is reflective of political propaganda and graffiti. During one of those hot, humid summer nights, after years of saying that we were going to do this, we finally decided, along with the support of Thuppy and my cousin Junio!, to finally give in and work on this project.We agreed to call our concept MVM3NT© and chose the Cockroach/vermin as our logo. We even went as far as to have our nurtured child copywritten and registered with the United States Government office of Patents.Thus, with the type of eagerness expressed by kids on their first day school, my Brother and I began to develop designs centered on the type of socialist realist art expressed by Soviet, Mexican, Chinese and progressive artists of the early 20th century. However, we also realized that in order for our project to succeed we had to appeal to the common man within our own environment. As a result, we dipped into our own past to come up with some true substance.Our past was one littered with memories of growing up in Brooklyn and living on public assistance. Growing up in the 1980’s within New York’s 5 boroughs we were privildged enough to witness the birth of Hip Hop and its four elements (Graffiti, Breakin’, MC’ing and DJ’ ing). At the time, we could not fathom the idea that we were holding the hand of a giant. We simply obeyed to “pop and lock†to his demands and nodded our heads back and forth to the beats of community heroes Run-Dmc, Public Enemy and Eric B. and Rakim. We evolved with it. Ate it. Slept and gave into it. Now we are disgusted with what it has grown up into, an overgrown corporate character with a golden grin, a pink shirt, an oversized helmet fitted New Era baseball cap, tight jean wearing hipster bandwagon vultures with $300 dollar pair of sneakers whose heroes are mythical drug dealers with bad Cuban accents with a mouth full of diamonds and a diamond slave chain around their neck. While his heroes sling cocaine to anyone in our cities, our heroes get laughed at for trying to end injustice, racism and class elitism. Our heroes are not fake! They have always held the sword in one hand and a fistful of knowledge in the other, hence the necessity of MVM3NT©.We grew tired of art that reflected capitalist tendencies. We grew tired of art that portrayed Al Pacino and his mythical Scarface latin sambo character as a hero. We simply grew tired of the bullshit. MVM3NT© was born out of frustration and hope.
