Review of the CD by The Waits Website
Wyldes Noyse is a group of two or three musicians drawn from King's Lynn Waites . Consisting of Chief Waite Chris Gutteridge, wind and string player Elizabeth Gutteridge, and other members of the Waites if required, the group is named after William Wylde, King's Lynn minstrel, and one of the first recorded Waites in the country. The group wears Renaissance dress and performs on a variety of early instruments as well as singing.
The duo is the ideal group for fêtes, garden parties, dinners, weddings, etc. where a smaller group is desired, or in a more intimate setting. The group has an extensive memorised repertoire and can play from a balcony or gallery, or in the corner of a room, or will roam about freely, playing as they go.
Wyldes Noyse specialises in "playing about the streets", giving your street market or town festival an exciting, colourful and tuneful added dimension. They are used to working together with other performers, such as actors, dancers, jugglers, street entertainers and re-enactors and will adapt their performances to fit in with others.
We're also available for entertaining musically illustrated talks, and for demonstrations and workshops in schools, covering social history and the history of European popular music from earliest times up to the nineteenth century. Opportunities can be provided for active participation in musical improvisation and performance, and dance.
Wyldes Noyse also performs popular music and songs and English folk dances from the Georgian period in appropriate dress.
Wyldes Noyse play the following instruments:
shawms, recorders, cornett, lysard, serpents, sackbut, slide trumpet, rebec, lute, cittern, harp, fiddles (medieval, Renaissance & modern), violas, trombones (narrow bore, modern tenor, modern bass, antique 'G' bass), clarinets (early and modern), flute.
Corvus Corax - fantastic shawm playing!
