As far back as he can remember, Frayne Lewis has had music in his life. “There was always music in our house — with my father, pianist Ramsey Lewis, and all of the great musicians coming by to play and collaborate with him. It was easy to catch the bug.
“I started out on the piano taking after my father, Ramsey Lewis. After a while, though,†he adds with a chuckle, “I thought it best to try a different instrument and I chose bass.†He attended the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy, but, by age 14, found himself homesick and returned to Chicago and was enrolled at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. It was while attending the University of Miami where Frayne really began to cut his musical teeth. “I met such a wide range of people while at Miami. We’d go out and perform in and around Coconut Grove, exploring all types of music and styles. Attending college is so often an eye-opening time of life, and — looking back — my musical experiences there made a deep impression on me.
After school, Frayne returned to Chicago and took up producing. “I’m not quite sure what it is about producing that captivates me. There is a certain amount of mystery to it. It’s like painting a picture — allowing the real beauty of the work to come shining through only happens after great care is taken on how all of the individual pieces are put together. One way it can be just ‘so-so’. With a little tweak here or there, the result can be dramatically different.
â€Adding to my musical journey I've worked on remixes for Beyonce, John Legend, Omarion, Jill Scott, Christina Aguilera and many others. Going back to my roots, I've worked with many jazz artists such as Ramsey Lewis, Dave Koz, Joe Sample, Johnathan Butler and Earl Klugh."
