The influences in my art can be traced through the cultures of my own heritage and my mothers commitment to giving me a vast background in textiles. My pieces are always devoted to the early functional crafts of Africa, the Americas and Asia-- mostly the masks and carved figures that I love, and to my own need to add the textures of woven fabrics. I work in the same basic plant fibers, metal and clay that ancient artisans used to create the pieces that were a part of their ever day lives. I gather my own materials from the earth as often as I can, and I mix those with modern products. I think of my work as a synthesis of cultures past, and my own times as a woman, mother and artist.I'm living in Williamsburg Virginia, married with three children.
