Influences: As a child my greatest influences were my parents who were superb musicians. I started listening to Vassar Clements, a renowned fiddle player. Other fiddle influences were Sam Bush, Ricky Skaggs, Kenny Baker and Mark O'Connor. Guitar influences early on were Tony Rice and Clarence White. As far as my favorite music to listen to, it ranges from James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg to the greats of the 40's, Sinatra and Martin all the way to the best of Bluegrass. My favorite male vocalist of all time is the Great John Cowan. I was fortunate enough to get to cut a song and share the tenor vocals with him on Travis Tritt's "Here's a Quarter." I'd love to be involved in another project with him in the future. I guess I just appreciate good music from all genres.
Sounds Like: On fiddle, I've been told my style resembles Mark O'Connor. Vocally, I'm not sure I could compare myself to anyone but other people say that when doing a James Taylor song, there is a similarity. I've also been told I do a pretty good Vince Gill impression. I'd love to think I could pull off a Fogelberg tune or two. One of my favorites of his to sing is "Wandering Shepherd" which I hope to cut in the near future. John Cowan's songs are probably my favorite songs that are not my originals to sing. Being a tenor vocalist, I guess he's "the man" to set your standards by. I've always thought it hard to compare yourself to anyone who you've always admired because we all have our heroes who can't be imitated.
