Funky Junky Monkeys

About Me

The band formed in 1998 and, as a three piece, performed gigs in custom-made monkey costumes. ‘The idea was to remain anonymous and for a while it worked’ said front man Ray Toland , ‘Then someone published our names on the internet so we ditched the suits– it was too damned hot in those things anyhow!' (see the Original FJM Pics on our Photos page).
When our singer ran away to Thailand to escape his debts Ray and Fingers recruited Rob who, along with Ray took over his vocal duties. Jet joined in 2006 to add a little more feedback and Ronnie 'The Reed' Rocket joined in 2007 to blow her sax and sing her songs.
Over the last few years the Monkeys have been playing gigs, festivals and parties. For the last two years they have played to a two thousand strong crowd, headlining in Priory Park as part of the Malvern Fringe' May Day celebrations and have played at Malverns West Fest.
The band are also running a small festival this year - The Pyramid Party. Watch this space !Bassist ‘Fingers’ Tuckerang Utang was so excited when he joined the band that he had 'King Kong' tattooed on his left cheek (yes, that one) while drummer Rob Makak lives on bananas and is rumored to be living in a tree. Guitarist Jet shaved the group’s initials, FJM, into his scalp during a recent haircut.
The band are currently working on their debut CD ‘Fifteen Minutes in a Monkey Suit’ which is probably never going to be released.
