Luis Reyes

Born in Humacao,Puerto Rico.Luis Reyes was raised in a musical family.His father was a very well known percussionist in his native town of Naguabo,Puerto Rico,and his mother sang in church.In his home all types of music was being heard due to his mother being from New York ,and his father being from Puerto Rico.Music like Ismael Rivera,Cheo Feliciano, Eddie Palmieri,Marvin Gaye,Al Green and other mainstream pop artist of that time(which later influenced and would mold his style.) His father began to teach him congas at an early age, but he began playing seriously at the age of 14. After the passing of his father,he then began taking formal lessons from Hector "Pocho" Neciosup, who would launch him into the professional arena. One of the first gigs Hector would send him on ,was to play on a live recording at the age of 18 with luminaries Chester Thompson, Justo Almario,and Abraham Laboriel. Due to his hunger for learing, he also started taking lessons from people from all over, including conga great David "La Mole" Ortiz (teacher to percussion greats Giovanni Hidalgo,Anthony Carrillo,and Richie Flores),David Marcano,Edwin Torres, Pablito Rosario, just to name a few.
