Lea Lanier

Her voice...rings as sharply as quartz crystal

About Me

Hi! I am Lea Lanier and I am an active performer in opera, musical theater and oratorio. As a graduate of Manhattan School of Music many doors have been opened for me and I have led a better career than some as a coloratura soprano. Although I have never sung at the Met or any other comparable level house, I am happy with the life God has given me and that I have been able to perform for those that just simply appreciate a good performance at any level. In a review by the The Atlanta Journal Constitution, they were quoted as saying that my voice is "as clear as crystal quartz." How about that? I have a great following of friends and theater goers here in Atlanta and I believe that I was born to entertain! I love regional theater because you get a more personal experience with those that come to see you. But please, don't get me wrong! I am still actively interested in singing at level 1 houses! I currently reside in Atlanta with my husband, Todd, who is the drummer for the Georgia Satellites and our four legged daughter, Priscilla Mae. I stay busy as I own my own real estate brokerage to pay the bills and take every opportunity to sing that I can find. I have found that since I have gotten older, my self-worth and mindset has improved which has only helped my singing. If only I had had this level of confidence and this positive outlook years ago, who knows where I could be now? I was born in Augusta, Georgia but quickly set out on my adventure as the daughter to an army officer which took me to places such as Germany, Washington D.C. and yes, even Biloxi. I moved nine times before I attended 7th grade and I have found that that lifestyle provided me with the tools to be a great performer. I never shy away from making new friends or being the center of attention! My repertoire and performance experience includes, Violetta in La Traviata, Norina in Don Pasquale, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Musetta in La Boheme, Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore, Mable in Pirates of Penzance, Monica in The Medium, Lisa in The Land of Smiles by Lehar, Constanza in The Abduction, 1st Lady and Papagena in The Magic Flute and many oratorios and opera concerts. I have had the priviledge of singing opera arias at Weil Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall) in concert, and performing with the following companies and orchestras: Atlanta Lyric Theatre, LaGrange Opera and Symphony, Cobb Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, AIMS Symphony Orchestra-Graz, Austria, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Players, Cartersville Opera and others.I must admit that singing our National Anthem at Yankee Stadium was a career highlight!

My Interests

Music:

Influences: In high school, I listened to Beverly Sills and Joan Sutherland mostly as I was dazzled by the coloratura. As I have grown older, I listen to Renee Fleming, Caballe and other great lyrics for the beauty of tone. I really love operetta and light opera. However, I will not rest peacefully in my grave unless I get to sing Sopie in Rosenkavalier. My current voice teacher, Meredith Zara, is my biggest influence. She had a tremendous career in Germany for many years as a dramatic coloratura and has taught me what it really means to be a singer. Her favorite thing to say to me is "quit being artsy fartsy and just sing it"!" Oh and of course, "there are two dynamics in opera, loud and louder!" You just gotta love her!
Sounds Like: I'm just trying to sound like an opera singer these days. I think I am pretty close. Screeching, singing loud and foreign language-must be opera!

Renne Fleming-Traviata

Boy, oh Boy! Where do I begin?  My birthday present this year was a trip to New York to see Renee Fleming sing Violetta in Traviata at the Met.  I have always been a fan of hers and since I ...
