Birth Name: Clara Gordon BowClara was born in a Brooklyn New York tenement to a dysfunctional family. Her mother suffered from mental illness and epilepsy and worked as a prostitute to support herself and Clara. Her mother expected her to die and never bothered to get Clara a birth certificate. Clara's father went in and out of her life as a child and she and her mother moved around Brooklyn a lot. When She was 16 Clara entered a contest to be in a movie. She won, costarred in a movie and soon after was sent to Hollywood to start her acting career with Ben Schulberg. Later she would be transfered to Paramount for the rest of her Acting career.
