At 19, Warwick’s Santina King is finding her own voice. King, a graduate of Pioneer Valley Performing Arts High School and now current student at University of Southern Maine in Portland, is moving in unique directions with her voice and guitar phrasing. This young singer-songwriter composes mostly on guitar—building her intricate and rich musical compositions from scratch. King grew up in a music-rich environment. Her father Rick King, is an accomplished blues guitarist, and mom Tonia King is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Santina picked up the beat early in her household—studying and playing piano at age 6. But her passion for music really began to blossom when she picked up the acoustic guitar some five years back. One big influence on her acoustic leanings was the music of Ani DiFranco, who she still holds in the greatest esteem. Santina’s inner voice, musical role models—and the encouragement and the shared expertise from her family have helped set the stage for this new singer/songwriter to develop complex tunings and the unique voice she now infuses in all her original works.
