CAMDEN, NJ MURDER CITY

About Me

Just trying to shed some light to a city that has been trapped in the dark for many years.. The city of Camden has about 80 to 100,000 residence. Home of Campbell soup and now the New Jersey State aquarium, Camden yet still is one of the poorest city's in the United States with a average household income of $19 to $25,000 per annual. Camden has been plagued by greedy politicians including a corrupt mayor with ties to the mafia.. Camden has no industry or economic structure therefore it's largest employer is the drug trade with profits reaching the billions. This is the IBM and Microsoft of this community... Camden city has around 165 open air drug corners that operate like seven-eleven around the clock says Hiram Rosa of North Camden.” The people are afraid to go to the store". There's drug activity on every corner says Rosa. Recently taken over by the New Jersey State Police, Camden still remains in the top 10 most dangerous U.S. City's before reaching number '1 last year... The police commissioner blames late night eatery's such as "Crown Fried Chicken" where and 18 year female lost her life when a hale of bullets ripped through a crowd standing in front of the establishment after hours... As a result of that and the recent spike in murders Camden is planning to implement a curfew that will mandate these businesses to close no later then 12:AM... Camden has been know for drugs, gun violence and crooked politicians for some time yet nothing is being done... Some officers are saying it's like putting a band aid on a broken leg. "We are out gunned and out manned" says officer Hicks... "We take them off the streets today, 10 more will replace them tomorrow". Driving through some Camden neighborhoods you will see hundreds of abandoned houses with newly built homes scattered array... "This city needs more then new homes" Says Cathy Morris who has been a residence of Camden for 51 years.. "This city needs God and the Army to fight it's war... I don't doubt they need God around here but I don't think they need the army considering it already looks like they been here...Mark Harris. Reporting from Camden.Camden has been named the nation’s most-dangerous city, snatching the top spot from Detroit, according to a company’s annual ranking based on crime statistics.Officials in Camden, which was ranked third last year, downplayed the dubious designation Sunday, saying many steps have already been taken to reduce crime in the city.“We must give our people jobs, training and opportunity,” said City Councilman Ali Sloan-El, who pointed out that Camden’s poverty is an important contributing factor to its high crime rate.Atlanta, St. Louis and Gary, Ind. rounded out the top five in the most dangerous city rankings, which was to be released Monday by Morgan Quitno Corp. The company publishes “City Crime Rankings,” an annual reference book that will be published next month. Detroit fell to second in this year’s list. However, company president Scott Morgan told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in its Sunday edition that he had been unaware that St. Louis police omitted 5,760 crimes from their 2003 crime data. Provided with the correct data, Morgan found that St. Louis would have switched places with Atlanta.

..4-year-old killed in Camden crossfire by Carly Rothman/The Star-Ledger Monday August 04, 2008, 11:23 PM A 4-year-old boy died tonight after being shot in the head while playing on a Camden sidewalk, authorities said. The child, accompanied by his mother, was playing in the 1600 block of Norris Street near his home when the first shots were fired around 5:20 p.m., said Jason Laughlin, a spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office."There was a crossfire, and he was caught in the middle of it," Laughlin said.Dozens of rounds were fired, but the child was the only one hit, Laughlin said. The initial shooter was apparently gunning for a specific target, according to Laughlin, but he declined to say how many shooters were involved or describe the cause of the conflict."A lot of what happens in Camden is drug-related, the drug trade has some part in it one way or another, but I can't say specifically in this incident," Laughlin said. The boy's mother was not one of the shooters and was not hurt, he said. The child was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, Laughlin said.Authorities late Monday issued a murder warrant for 20-year-old Donald Lindsey and said they are searching for the Camden resident.
