About Me

Phil Blank Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica, Slide Guitar Phil Blank, a 25 year veteran Cincinnati blues and rhythm & blues performer, is well known through many popular Cincinnati venues such as The Redfish, Neon’s, Havana Martini Club, and Jefferson Hall. And many other locations including Jack Quinn’s, Chez Nora , Coco’s and The Avenue.
Phil began playing the guitar when he was 14. In 1972, Phil played with the famous guitar innovator T-Bone Walker at the Viking Lounge in Cincinnati. T-Bone was impressed with Phil's guitar playing, saying “Phil Blank has the feeling!”
Later Phil was hired by the legendary Sam Myers ( of the renowned Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets featuring Sam Myers). Sam often spoke of Phil’s talent, fortitude and versatility. Phil played both guitar and harmonica with Sam in Jackson, Mississippi.
In 1978 Muddy Waters invited Phil on stage at Bogart’s. For Phil, playing with his idol was the ultimate thrill. The experience inspired Phil to move to Los Angeles where he joined forces with Shakey Jake, Hollywood Fats, George Harmonica Smith, and William Clarke (of Alligator Records). William Clarke mentioned Phil’s outstanding playing abilities in an interview with “Blues Power”.
Returning to Cincinnati in 1980, Phil has dedicated himself to bringing his house rocking music to his hometown. For over five years in the 1980’s Phil performed every weekend at the premier blues club Cory’s. where he lead several bands. Cory’s featured many acts such as H-Bomb Ferguson, Big Joe Duskin, Pigmeat Jarrett, and Big Ed Thompson and the Allstars.
Phil has opened for many national acts: Johnny Winters, Lonnie Mack, Roy Buchanan, Greg Allman, Savoy Brown, John Mayall, and Junior Wells. He also performed with the late legend Jimmy Rodgers and his son, Jimmy D. Lane.
On July 31st of 2004 Phil performed at the Cincy Blues Fest where he received a “Lifetime Achievement In Blues Music Award” from the Greater Cincinnati Blues Society.
Phil believes that the blues is a true art form. He incorporates funk and upbeat rhythmic modes within his material. His exceptional playing on both the harmonica and slide guitar, riveting vocals, personal arrangements for blues standards and original songs creates an exciting and unique blues experience.
