About Me

My poetry and stuff - only just started it so it's quite empty: http://caitlinstubbs.deviantart.com/
My Grandpa's a pacifist. If you don't watch out, I'll get him to come and lie down in front of you.
Salut!
I'm Caitlin.
I also now play with the magnificent company of the amazing percussionist Lew Whittington who never fails to upstage me whether we're busking or gigging or just jamming away!
I've been writing for about 6 years now, playing piano for about 8 and guitar for about 1 year. Until I was about 6, my mum always used to play and sing me songs that she'd written when she was younger and I wished I could be like her when I got older. I started having piano lessons when I was in year 3 after years of wishing I could just sit down and play! But I started having lessons with a short, dumpy 65 year old woman who lived in Ringmer and could have been used in the Oxford dictionary as part of the definition of the word "stereotype". I didn't actually have a piano at this point, just a tiny 3-octave keyboard which I HATED because the most effective dynamics that it was possible to achieve were the ones which required you to twist the volume thing and play simultaneously. I used to dread those lessons and my parents would have to remind and bribe me into practising. After a couple of years, I started having lessons with my agent and drama teacher (from outside of school) - Shana Goldman. She was brilliant but by the end of my time with her, we were just writing together and she was teaching me the basics of recording. I loved lessons with her but not when I was being taught how to play the instrument.
So I haven't been having lessons for the past 4 years now and I love it! It gives you such a sense of freedom just to be able to play whatever you want and you just feel so much more inclined to sitting down and playing.
Well..rather than a "Band Bio", this has turned into more of a "Philosophy on Music Lessons - By Caitlin Stubbs". Ah well.
Oh! AND I just got a load of recording stuff for my birthday so I'm rather excitable about it and it's a whole new thing so I'm really keen just to whack stuff up onto myspace and not really consider whether it's suitable or not. I will sit down and do it all properly though..one day. At the moment it's just bits and bobs that I feel are the start of something.
Peace x

My main motivation, inspiration and influence in writing and performing has always been, and always will be him. The most incredible and yet down to earth man I have ever met, who wanted nothing but equality and peace and fought for it with everything he had. His nightmare would've been to sit there moaning about how awful the world was and not doing anything about it - he had hope and determination. The most peaceful, honest person with only good intentions. It's no wonder his favourite animals were elephants!

Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling, Billy Bragg, Feist, Annie Lennox, Bella Spinks, Jose Vanders, Jak Hooper, Joe Ellis, my mum - Bea Mitchell and I'll finish this another time :)
Sounds Like: Get me on facebook! :D.. | :
