Anthony Jenkins held his first guitar at the age of 13. It was an instant and magical connection which would result in a life long love of playing music and writing his own compositions. He is a self-taught musician, drawing inspiration from a variety of artists from Jimi Hendrix, George Benson, John Mclaughlin and Al Di Meola. Growing up in Newark NJ, Anthony was exposed to a strong local music scene and was taken under wing of some of the areas finest musicians. He began playing in his first band, Port Authority, in the early 70s and quickly became a staple on the local music scene, performing at The Cotton Club and The Blue Note Jazz Club. He also co-wrote and recorded with Buddy Hank on his first album. Anthony later signed on to a 80s reunion tour with DooWop famed band, The Crests. In 1997, Anthony moved north to New York to work with regional artists Terri Hollinger and Friends, touring east coast clubs and lounges including Turning Stone and Canfield Casino. He later played with Orange NJ based band “August Roseâ€, recording studio tracks and performing in the NY/NJ area at fund raisers, private parties and serving as back up band for special appearance artist, Lauren Hill. Moving to Glens Falls gave Anthony opportunity to make a fresh start, selecting musicians and song selections of his choice and resulted in the forming of his first rock/funk band, “Whos your daddy †and later, “Echoâ€. Setting aside his rock and roll days, Anthony set a goal to venture forward with his first passion, jazz, and worked diligently to form his current Band, The Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip. With the backup of some of the areas finest jazz musicians, The Tony Jenkins Jazz Trip performs original compositions and favorite jazz standards and can be seen locally at The Sagamore Resort, The Georgian as well as every Friday at Wallabees Jazz Bar.
