Fermium

Fermium are a Progressive Metal band from Halstead, which is in the county of Essex of the United Kingdom. They have being trying to cement together a set line-up of musicians for some years and are still only three members. They have had many name changes and about half a dozen people have been involved in some past incarnation of Fermium or other.Fermium began life in secondary school music class when the students were assigned the task of choosing a song and singing it. This is where just starting out guitarist Adam Gardiner comes in. With his friends they took on the song 'Just For' by Nickleback, singing and playing an acoustic version on guitar. That day Fermium was born and over the past four years has grown up from baby to adult.Fermium has had many phrases of musical genre. At first they were meant to be a rock band in the vein of Nickleback and Foo Fighters, then as Adam got into the metal scene they became thrash and during that time the band nearly broke apart because they took on two members who had the wrong attitude. Adam was writing the songs and he'll admit now that the early lyrics were crap, but it was the music that caused the problems. Adam had written music in a dropped guitar tuning. The second guitarist wouldn't tune his guitar down and insisted on playing the songs in standard tuning. He didn't last long and so Fermium, then lamely called The Metal Masters, were back to a two-piece band. The dream was given up for a time and the drummer of then quit drums and took up bass, leaving Adam on his own to rethink what he truly wanted from this band. Months later the band was back under the name Avarice but they had to change the name to Fermium when they discovered the name was taken. During the time as Avarice Adam was influenced by Gothic Metal and he began to consider going down that line, but one day he heard a band called Opeth and the rest as they say is history. The prog metal Fermium was born and the band think that now it will stay that way. They see the progressive tag as the excuse to do as they please and go down any road without the confines of a set genre. Adam now says: "You can expect anything from this band; except pop and rap!"
