Synopsis
When Cole Archer accidentally starts a fire in Beverly Hills High School, his stepfather, Senator Raymond Archer, in order to protect his own presidential desires, has him placed in the Holly Grove Memorial Hospital.
Immediately, Cole senses that something in Holly Grove, known as the Asylum to its patients, is not right. The night of his arrival, Cole finds that he is in a nest of teenaged vampires. Before he can do anything, one of them, Kari, under the orders of the head teen vampire, Sebastian, turns him.
But if becoming a vampire was not bad enough, Cole had fallen in the middle of a power storm between Sebastian, and the head of Holly Grove, Doctor Olaf Svenson, the first vampire. Worse than that, he and Kari fell instantly in love, in spite of the fact that Sebastian’s jealousy over the affair grew out of control with every passing moment.
Finally, tensions between Sebastian and Svenson grow to a head when Sebastian finds out that Svenson had killed the love of Sebastian’s life, Rose, when she found out that the good doctor was lying to them about their true nature, that they could walk in daylight. Finding the one weakness in Svenson’s armor, the only way he could be killed, by plunging a stake or arrow, made of the same ash wood that originally killed him when he was a Roman legates, into his heart. Cornered in Svenson’s library, reading the older vampire’s diary, he kills him and the other cronies.
At the same time, Sebastian, trying to unify power under himself, growing more and more jealous of Kari’s affection for Cole, and the fact that they both were growing more and more estranged from his power, goes after the two lovers. When Tina, Cole’s sister, comes to look for him, Sebastian takes her hostage and threatens to turn her. Finally, in a monumental battle, Cole, with Kari’s help, defeats Sebastian, freeing them all from the tyrannical rule of Sebastian and Svenson.
For the first time in decades, the vampires see their first sunrise of their new life.
