About Me

I started playing guitar at an early age primarily due to Ace Frehley (who didn't)? I started my first band "Ares" in 84 or 85. Bunch of friends... Mike Kratts on vocals, Jon Ryczek on bass, Corey Walter on drums and me on guitar. Played a few dances early on - a blast had by all. Next, I played with a Rush cover band called AfterImage with Mike Kratts again on vocals, Greg Beaton on bass and keys, Rob Lynch on drums and percussion and yours truly on guitar. We played a few shows at the local YMCA in part of a local youth music movement that included Buffalo mainstays - Chuck DeRose, Leslie Zagotti, Carl Ciadella, Craig Marazzo, Jamie Holka and Rob Nebauer to name a few. Hope I didn't leave any out...sorry if I did. We played in a few battle of the bands as well with some success. The next musicical chapter for me was totally different...Rob Lynch, Greg Beaton and I formed a three piece rock, jazz, fusion band. We wrote all original music. This is when I could see how talented those guys really were and still are. We recorded a few tunes, one of which is posted here called "Mead Hall". There are others, somewhere in a vault waiting to be released (actually digitized, then released). I then quit playing guitar for about 7 years or so. No reason, just did. Then one day I went out to see Mark Porter's band and he asked me up to play. Mark beat my band AfterImage in a battle of the bands and remembered my 1979 Silverburst Les paul from that battle, and therefore remembered me. I hadn't played a guitar in years but I got through it. I had a blast, went home and started playing. From there, I had small projects on the electric guitar but I recorded an EP of seven songs with my friend Jon Ryczek in 2003 or 04, I can't remember. All I know is one day I see his band and in two days we were writing for the first time in 13 years. We played out under the name JAM and the acoustic EP was a blast. Those are the acoustic songs posted here. Jon moved to the big Florida and I continued to play small gigs by myself. Every time Jon would make it up to NF we would book a show and play. The current musical chapter has me playing more than I ever did. I now play with Beautiful Lunacy, an alt rock, classic rock band with Victoria on vocals, Doug on drums, Kacz on bass and me on guitar and vocals. I also play acoustic guitar in a project w/ my friend Mike from my No Exit days. If you haven't done so already, go see a local band today, tomorrow or this weekend. Support the Buffalo music scene. It's awesome!!! Thanks, Matt
