Shakara Andrews, LadyBoss hails from North Philadelphia, PA.Growing up in North Philly was not always sunshine and roses but a daily struggle for LadyBoss, who happens to be the oldest of 5 siblings, all of who are males.Raised in a single parenthousehold, her mother did the best that she could to provide for LadyBoss and her brothers.While still a youngster LadyBoss, found a way to escape the harsh realities of family life: Hip Hop Music. She absolutey fell in love with the music. At the early age seven, she received her first karaoke machine as a gift from her mother and began trying to rap to the beats. Heavily influenced by the likes of LL Cool J, MC Lyte, and Da Brat, she began writing lyrics and making her own songs and by age 11 she had written her first song "Knowledge is Power."As she grew older, friends and family members realized she had some serious rhyming skills. She was often times the main entertainment for numerous family reunions, cookouts and events showcasing her rhyming and dancing skills. During the same time, she was making a name for herself locally entering and winning talent shows across the city and area including Club Flow of Philadelphia while still in High School. At age 15, she and one of her best friends came up with her present stage name LadyBoss, which means "about her business and don't take no mess"In 2005, a neighbor of hers knew that she was getting very serious about her music and she had already been working on a demo. The neighbor told her that he had a producer in mind that he wanted her to meet. Shortly afterwards, she met the producer Troy Davis, who really liked her(but she is know longer with JOS Ent.) music and in 2006 gave her a record deal. As the first female hip hop act of the company, she immediately rose to the occasion and began writing and working on various projects for JOS Entertainment. LadyBoss describes her style as "real and from the heart."Her words of encouragement to others are: "keep trying to reach for your goals, work hard at it, and never give up."
