VIDEODROM

VIDEODROM was created by Borjan Zafirovski and Ilina Angelovska as a club initiative, with a main purpose of creating a first nonofficial Macedonian video scene. During the club sessions at Sector 909, thru VIDEODROM for a short period of time a variety of Macedonian authors from the film, VJ-ing, photography and music spheres were presented. This has created a snow ball effect on many Macedonian film and video artists, and leaded into an avalanche of new ideas, projects and videos. This whole new production of films and videos from the Macedonian directors, took up the freedom to name this initiative as NEW MACEDONIAN VIDEO, and by that to draw new standards, rules and esthetics witch will make a difference from the old Macedonian “school” of directors, who were mainly occupied with picturing only the dark side of the Balkans, Macedonia or Skopje. Under this new initiative, several music videos for Macedonian musicians and music bands such as PMG COLLECTIVE,Robotek, Mooger Fooger and Foltin were already made, which you will have the chance to see on this page or on a big screen during some of VIDEODROM’s next sessions. The first larger project of the NEW MACEDONIAN VIDEO by now is in the final phase of preparation, and takes up the title “10 For Skopje”.__________________________________________________ ____________“10 For Skopje” is a feature film composed of ten stories produced by the 10 eminent directors, authors who have graduated on the film academy in Skopje, of which some have international experience and European awards for film. For long years, it had been discussed for the need for an urban Macedonian film in which the good and modern sides of Skopje will be revealed. This film has that exact purpose.Each one of the films will cover one specific topic and will aim to promote the Macedonian art on different levels and by different manner. One of the elements with high importance is the music, which will be an inseparable element of these films. Each of the films will have the duty to promote one Macedonian music band or at least one representative of the same, which will take an active role in the film. The Macedonian artists, sculptors and multimedia artists will have the opportunity to be part of this film and participate in it by presenting their work in one indirect and non typical way. Each one of the stories of this film will be situated in a different district in Skopje and would cover some of its important elements and specifics in its architecture, history, district mythology, famous club, restaurant, etc. Even though the film will be consisted of 10 different stories, they would still be interweaved between each other and will make one whole, which will represent one lifelong film, suitable for screenings in the film theaters.This project won’t stop on the cinema screenings, but will broaden to making multimedia concerts, in which the bands who took part in the film will perform; exhibitions of pictures will be made, photographs, sculptures, installations and other artist’s works which took part in the film will be presented.All of this, makes “10 for Skopje” a complete project which has a mission to enclose the larger part of the contemporary Macedonian art and culture on one place, and by that, be an art product which will proudly present us as a culture which exists and is valuable!!!
