Monica Guthrie- Purchase has been singing since the age of four when she was given her first solo by Mrs. Doris Ward at St. James AME Church in Chicago. Since then, she has gone on to sing solos, duets, and is currently the director for the St. James AME Church Youth Choir. Since a young age, Monica knew that it was more than just singing. It was later after devoloping a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that she realized that God put a special anointing upon her voice. Through lifes trials and tribulations, God granted her with songwriting abilities to heal and lift up his people.Ms Guthrie Purchase became acquainted with studio work while lending her vocals at Hinge Studio as well as for The 17th Floor Productions. Here she gained the thirst to record her own music. She has also held roles in plays such as "The Story of Sampson and Delila", and " A Man That Finds A Wife Findeth A Good Thing". Her current role as mother to her two sons, Jalen and Josiah, has proven to be her lifes greatest work. Monica has used her voice as a member of the Doris Ward Workshop Chorale as well as Michael Miller and Totally focused where she gained the opportunity to perform with Carl Thomas and perform for Karen Clark Sheard. Currently she sings at her home church, St. James AME 9256 S. Lafayette, Chicago, where her pastor is Rev. J.L. Thorn and sings with the Voices of Levi. When she is not lending her voice in song, she can be found teaching, talking to youth, and being team mom for her sons. Her long awaited CD entitled Willing Spirit was released in October of 2007.
