NordFolk

NordFolk is a group packed with energy, cheerfulness and rhythmical understanding. They know how to interpret traditional Danish folk music and -dance and fuse it with showmanship and originality. The group consists of four dancers and four musicians from the upper layers of the Danish folk dancing and folk music scene. All of the dancers are members of the troup “Danseben”, quadruple champions at the Danish folk dancing championship, and Carsten Jørgensen a triple champion of couples dancing. At the championship of 2007, he won a silver medal with his partner Mette Lukasewicz. Desirée and Frederik started dancing together in the experimental dancing troupe “Rod i Traditionerne”, where they learned alternative ways of performing folk dance. The musicians all share a strong background in folk music and are some of the most talented newcomers in the genre. They are either attending the folk music division at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Odense (“Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium”), or will start attending it soon. They are also members of several other ensembles such as “ Pørtners Komplot ”, “ FAUK ”, “Strygfri” and “ Pulk ”. Playing two violins, a guitar and a double bass, they join forces to create the perfect atmosphere for the dance and a swing that makes sitting down rather difficult. Photos: Ann Sophie
