TRANSATLANTIC FLIES AGAIN!!!
PROGRESSIVE ROCK SUPERGROUP
REUNITES FOR NEW STUDIO ALBUM.
POSSIBLE LATE 2009 RELEASE PLANNED.
TRANSATLANTIC, the progressive rock "supergroup" comprised of Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings) and Neal Morse (ex-Spock's Beard), have reunited after a 7 year hiatus to begin work on a brand new studio album.
The band began work on the album in early April in Nashville and are expected to have it released by year's end if all goes as planned.
TRANSATLANTIC have previously released two studio albums to tremendous critical and fan accl.. 2000's SMPTe and 2001's Bridge Across Forever. The band toured on the heels of each release with an American Tour in 2000 and a European Tour in 2001 and released subsequent Live DVD's/CD's from both tours before going their separate ways for an indefinite hiatus which lasted almost the entire decade.
TRANSATLANTIC:Transatlantic was born in 1999 when 4 members of wellknown progressive groups got together to make music: Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Neal Morse (Spock’s Beard), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings).
The first album "Transatlantic-SMPTe" was recorded in Millbrook New York in summer of 1999, an album that housed original collective material from bandmembers plus a rendition of the classic Brooker - Reid track "In Held Twas In I" from 1968 Procol Harum album "Shine On Brightly".
The album was then followed by tours and a "Live in USA" double album, shortly after that release a new recording started in Nashville USA,in a studio called Dark Horse owned by Robin Crow .
The band enjoyed success with both the record and the tour and it put fuel into the now growing new progressive rock scene.
Transatlantic did record the music in the "old fashion way" ,meaning no sequencer or patching of digital pieces, the music is played live in the studio but with some overdubs of course.
This 4 piece progpack rely heavily on collective composing and building longer epics from bits and pieces from different bandmembers.
It's now winter 2001 and that new record was named "Bridge Across Forever ",it was followed by more touring in Europe and also a "Live in Europe" and a live double DVD package.‘Live in Europe’ (2001) features Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Neal Morse (Spock’s Beard), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings) and guest musician Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation). Double CD, also available as double DVD.In 2001, Transatlantic were at the peak of their short, but impressive career. The live recordings of this gig from Tilburg (Holland) shows the talent, energy and enthusiasm of Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Neal Morse (Spock’s Beard), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings) and guest musician Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation). Apart from six songs – three of which take on epic dimensions of about 30 minutes’ time – there is also exclusive stuff on the album: Transatlantic augmented ‘Suite Charlotte Pike’ by adding a good portion of the B-side of the ‘Abbey Road’ album from the Beatles. Also available as double DVD.
Today 2007 Transatlantic is "put on ice" ........
Thanx for your interest in the band .
