CURRENT SITUATION IN NORTHERN UGANDA:Basic human needs of food, clothing, shelter, education and safety are only a dream for tens of thousands of children
orphaned in northern Uganda by continuous genocide over the past twenty plus years. An entire generation of children
is being raised by other children. Those lucky enough to survive the slaughter are left to struggle for their own
survival. Daily they must search for food for themselves and their siblings... nightly they must walk to overcrowded
shelters in search of a safe place to sleep away from the constant threat of rebel attacks.
Some of these children have seen their entire villages burned to the ground... they have seen their parents and elders
hacked to death by rebels with machetes. They have seen young boys forced to kill their own brothers or be
killed in return. They have witnessed the destruction of their people and their whole way of life. They have no one.
They have nothing.OVERALL PURPOSE OF VILLAGE:
The Village of Hope will take them out of the volatile areas of Northern Uganda, away for rebel attack and
to a place they can call home.
Currently children of war live in refugee camps, which provide only shelter for the children. Because they are
orphan head of household units, UN will not provide food. Therefore children are unable to provide for themselves or
attend school.
Village of Hope can offer orphans an opportunity to learn, develop skills that will provide them with a future,
along with safety from attack.
Each village will include individual huts where each family of orphans and widows (to provide parental love
and guidance) can live.
The village will also include a school, which will provide education to all the orphans as well as the surrounding
community and skill training, which will help support the village and prepare them for the future.
Villages will be built on large portions of land, which will allow crops to be grown and livestock to be raised.
All of which will provide food and income for the villages. With the goal of becoming self sufficient within two years.
